It's a command line application simulating the NHL game.

The project demonstrates a high quality software development based on various software standards followed in the industry to implement any code. It helped me to develop expertise in writing reusable, easily understandable, quick to modify and integrate type of code.

It gave me a chance to implement SOLID principles, Design patterns, Cohesion and Coupling, Clean code, Layer boundaries, refactoring techniques, etc. to write an industry standard code!

I got an opportunity to develop and implement various features using high level coding standards. By the end of the course, I was able to write the code in a structured manner that can adapt to any change easily.

Halifax Foodie

A Serverless Application

The project is about developing a multi-cloud based serverless application for a food delivery system called Halifax Foodie! It has various features like user management, authentication module, virtual support, chat support, data processing using containers, machine learning, web application hosting and visualization report generation.

I designed the entire project architecture by optimizing the costs of using any cloud service. I was able to learn and understand a lot of AWS and GCP cloud services, their usage, pros and cons before proceeding with the project design. It helped me to gain an understand about when to use each service and how to efficiently save costs incurred by using these services.

Implementation of these features using various cloud services had helped me gain experience in cloud as well as enabled me to develop applications using cloud services efficiently.

Cloud 9

A Web Application developed using AWS Cloud Services.

It's a cloud based web application that implements a device locking mechanism using AuthID. The seed will be downloaded to the user's machine during registration and will be used during authentication. In this way, user's password doesn't need to be sent to the server via network for authentication instead the AuthID from the user's machine can be used. This eliminates the threat of password being hacked or stolen. Since the seed is generated based on user's password and the machine fingerprint (MAC Address, Volume ID, etc), it cannot be copied and used in a different system.

I designed the project architecture by optimizing the costs while considering various factors like hours of usage, number of instances required, load balancing, data storage, etc. I explored various AWS cloud services to decide which services would be appropriate according to the project architecture. My decisions in choosing a particular service was based on the efficiency, optimized cost structure, duration of the instance required, etc. to create an effective cloud architecture.

Custom Database

A custom database and it's own management system.

The project was created to build and simulate a MySQL DB with basic necessary features. It has its own authentication and authorization mechanism along with encryption and storage of user passwords. It contains basic options like user registration and login, it's own SQL command prompt, custom MySQL dump, and ERD export option. It implements queries like CREATE, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE, SELECT, SQL DUMP, ERD Generation and FOREIGN KEY SUPPORT.

Additionally, it supports concurrent transactions using time based table locking mechanism. It can handle concurrent users at a time and accepts the queries in SQL format. It follows ACID properties like any other database and generates both generic and event based logs as per the transactions.

Mark-IT

A web based application for teaching and marking assistants at the university.

MarkIT is a comprehensive employment management portal that supports academic institutions to appoint educational assistants for the courses delivered during an academic term. The hiring management team can use this modern solution to automate the hiring process thereby decreasing manual effort. Moreover, students can use this platform to find out about the part-time jobs offered by the course instructors and seek employment relevant to their areas of interest.

The project consists of various features like user profile, course management, job posting management, hireing management, application management, onboarding system, etc. Since it was a group project, I had a chance to work on a major module i.e. user profile management - homepage, registration, login, forgot password, profile update, otp by email along with web application hosting which has CI/CD configured with Github.

User Experience

A research paper based on user experience of the current online collaborating tools.

The project demonstrates the ability and attention to detail required to design or modify any web application based on the user's experience. It helped me to understand and evaluate the user's experience based on certain guide lines. I had a chance to interview multiple users to understand their likes and dislikes about a particular online collaboration tool (Microsoft Teams vs Collaborate Ultra).

In this project, I learnt techniques like Congitive walkthroughs, low and high fidelity prototypes, affinity diagrams usage, semi-structured interview processes, study breakdown, etc. to understand the user's perspective of using each application. As it was a group research, we had a chance to collect various features of each application which needs improvement based on the user's needs and usage. Overall, this project helped me to gain insights on how applications are designed and how important it is to consider the user personas.
